In the Isère department, at the heart of the Grenoble metropolitan area, Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux is a gateway to the Chartreuse Regional Natural Park.
According to the latest census, the town has 6,129 residents known as Saint-Martiniers.
From the banks of the Isère to the summits of Néron, Rachais and Bastille, the municipality stretches across an area of more than 1,000 hectares.
While the mountainous hillside area still consists largely of hamlets, the historic village has retained its early 20th-century character. It overlooks the plains districts, which experienced strong urban development during the years of the conurbation’s growth, alongside the arrival of the tramway.
Most of the population now lives in this area. This is what led the town of Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux to commit to a proactive urban renewal policy.
The town is playing its full part in the broader territorial strategy for the Grenoble metropolitan area.
