Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region – Partner of the Blue Polka-Dot Jersey

There are moments that leave a lasting mark. Not simply because they change a name on a poster, but because they express something genuine about a région, what it represents and what it aspires to become.
The Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is one of those moments. Born in 1947 from a regional newspaper’s passion for cycling, this race has grown alongside our roads, mountain passes, and valleys. For nearly eight decades, under the name of the Critérium du Dauphiné, it brought together the greatest champions in world cycling—Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Miguel Indurain, and Tadej Pogacar—and established itself as the essential dress rehearsal for the Tour de France. This heritage is immense, and we are proud of it.
Our region is not merely the backdrop to the race: it is its very soul. It is the birthplace of champions such as Romain Bardet, Rémi Cavagna, and Julian Alaphilippe, who honed their skills on these roads. The Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes offers a uniquely diverse range of terrain: Alpine summits for exceptional climbers, rolling stages for breakaway specialists, and long straights for sprinters. Every type of rider can thrive, compete, and reveal their talent here.
The 2026 edition will provide the first and finest demonstration of this new chapter. From the start in Vizille to the grand mountain finale in Haute-Savoie, via Le Puy-en-Velay, the eight stages of this 78th edition will deliver a spectacle worthy of our region. More than 1,200 kilometres of racing will showcase just as many kilometres of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes to audiences around the world.
Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is a great cycling region. The Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is now its finest proof.

Fabrice PANNEKOUCKE - President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region
Laurent WAUQUIEZ – Special Adviser to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region
