The Grésivaudan valley stretches from the outskirts of the Grenoble metropolitan area to the edge of Savoie, in the heart of the Isère department. This former glacial valley, crossed by the River Isère, is bordered to the east by the remarkable peaks of the Belledonne range and the Grand Pic, which rises to 2,977 metres, and to the west by the superb cliffs of Chartreuse and the Dent de Crolles, which overlooks the plain and foothills against which Saint-Ismier stands.
This area, rich in variety, combines a preserved natural environment, well-being through Isère’s only two spa resorts, innovation and modernity, nevertheless remaining closely connected to its historic heritage of towers and châteaux.
History is very much present in Saint-Ismier, where many medieval remains can be seen, such as the Tour d’Arces, the keep of a former fortified castle dating from the late 12th century.
