Luke Tuckwell: "It was a real pain so I’m happy to hold on"

"The goal was to try and do everything that I could, use my decent advantage to keep the jersey. It was a super super tough day and this climb was a real pain so I’m happy to hold on to the jersey.
It’s my first time on this climb. It was quite unknown to me. But I had such a nice advantage that I could just pace myself the whole way. I didn’t have to react, I could do my own tempo. I was really struggling in the middle. I was thinking it was gonna be quite touch and go. And then I got the final kilometre and a half, and someone on the side of the road told me it was only one minute. It was the motivation I needed, because I had pulled my earpiece out. And then I just basically went full to the line.
We’ll find out tomorrow if I can keep it all the way to the end. It’s another crazy crazy day, so I’ll recover as much as I can and fight for it.
It’s my first year pro. I’m still finding out what my limitations are, what I need to work on. New roads tomorrow, with new climbs, I’m looking forward to it."
