Alex Baudin: "Everything was under control!"

June 8 th 2026 - 17:57

"I enjoyed it, but it was quite a struggle today! It was a long ride, and everyone was pretty knackered. But it was really brilliant to see the whole team working to maintain the gap to the breakaway… impressive.

As for the breakaway’s composition, we were quite lucky and the biggest threat in the general classification was still quite far back. Everything was under control! We had Max [Walker] and Alastair [Mackellar] who held out for 150 kilometres against 10 riders taking turns at the front, which wasn’t easy with a headwind. Then we still had Georg [Steinhauser] and Michael [Leonard] who were there to accelerate and ensure we had a safety margin. With the tension of the final stretch, other teams put in the work and in the end it wasn’t close.

Tomorrow we’ll give it a go, even though we’ve used up a lot of energy today. But this jersey will carry us through tomorrow."
