Opportunists are set to show off

No less than eight climbs are categorized on the 180km long route from Mauriac to Craponne-sur-Arzon. For the second consecutive day, the race is located in the Auvergne region. Romain Bardet will be even more on home soil as his native town of Brioude is at km 111 of stage 2. However, it’s pretty unlikely that GC contenders will fight each other on the grippy tarmac that will in any case make this race demanding with some damage to be felt later on this week. It might be even harder than on stage 1 for the sprinters to make the first group. It might as well be difficult for Dimension Data to defend Edvald Boasson Hagen’s lead in the overall ranking. Craponne-sur-Arzon, a village also featured on the map of the coming Tour de France, offers opportunities to attackers, including Casper Pedersen who’s got another chance to score KOM points as 24 of them are up for grabs.
