Valserhône merged in 2019, bringing together the three historic villages of Bellegarde-sur-Valserine, Châtillon-en-Michaille and Lancrans. It is bordered by the Rhône river, and the Valserine, the first waterway in France to be designated a wild river, passes through it. Nestled at the foot of the Jura mountains, Valserhône is set against a majestic backdrop of rivers, streams and mountains, offering a magnificent range of landscapes throughout the year. With almost 17,000 inhabitants, Valserhône is the third most populous and largest town in the Ain department, with large areas of green space and woodland. The town has been undergoing a major transformation since the start of the 2020s, and stands out for its rich and vibrant social fabric, and its cultural and sporting offering, which is expanding year on year. Valserhône is centrally located, in a way that is both advantageous and strategic, at the crossroads between Geneva, Annecy and Lyon. Its TGV-TER station invites you to come and visit our region, just 3 hours from Paris and 25 minutes from Geneva.
