Stage 5

41| Remco EVENEPOEL

Remco Evenepoel: "Tomorrow will be the first big test"

"I don't really have an explanation for what happened when I fell in the finale. But my hands were really wet and I lost my grip on the handlebars. In any case, I'm not in any pain, I just have a graze on my right knee, but it won't affect me going forward. We'll need to be ready for tomorrow, as it will be the first big test in the battle we're going to face over the next three days.

At first, I didn't realise that Benjamin Thomas was only 1'50" behind in the overall standings, so Lidl-Trek asked us to join the chase. We went for it because it was a good idea, and...

141| Thomas Jake STEWART

Jake Stewart: "I had to kick before Milan"

"It’s huge! That one feels really good. Apart from the Tour de France, it doesn’t really come bigger than winning at the Critérium du Dauphiné. It’s certainly the biggest win of my career. In Dunkirk, I got my first win in a few years and I was so close also here in the first stage… To get redemption like that in our last opportunity is really good.

It’s such a shame that Pascal Ackermann crashed today. It was a good day for him too. The boys backed me, they did an awesome job and I’m just so happy that I could finish...

176| Benjamin THOMAS

Benjamin Thomas: "2 kilometres is still a long way"

"A small breakaway got away. We quickly realised that the sprinter teams wanted to control the race, the gap went down to around 50 seconds… I caught them by surprise to counter-attack and I got back to the front with Thibault Guernalec. We then tried to manage the situation on some tough roads. We tried to hold off the peloton on the climbs and make up time on the descents... We came a little short with the headwind in the final kilometres. I think that prevented us from going all the way. There were three or four teams riding, we had a good day and we'll try again.

I'm...

173| Paul OURSELIN

Paul Ourselin: "I’m motivated for tomorrow"

"When the peloton came back to within a minute, Benjamin Thomas made his move and it turned into a really nice battle, with the sprinters' teams really pushing hard. Tomorrow, it will be my turn to go back out there.

I calculated my move, knowing that with the points I had earned in the first two stages, I could keep the jersey until Friday. I then made sure to recover and I felt good today, so I'm motivated for tomorrow.

Unlike Saturday or Sunday, it won't be high mountains straight away. The finish is very difficult, but the start of the race is quite open....

Stage 4

111| Mathieu VAN DER POEL

Mathieu Van der Poel: "I was motivated to give it my all"

"I’m really happy with my performance today, especially after spending so much energy yesterday in the breakaway. During the recon and also the warm up, I felt it in my legs but I was motivated to give it my all in this TT. I didn’t think about the overall lead at all. I knew that guys like Remco [Evenepoel] and the other GC favourites would gain a lot of time today so the yellow jersey was not in sight. It was just for myself, I wanted to do a good TT. I asked [Evenepoel] a few weeks ago if he thought I could finish within a minute from him. It was close...

41| Remco EVENEPOEL

Remco Evenepoel: "I'm surprised with the gaps"

“It was actually tough, with a steep climb. My goal, was to go as fast as possible until the intermediate and then keep a steady pace. I had an advantage with a lot of headwind in the valley so I used that to make the most of my position, and then I went as fast as possible on the climb with a perfect pacing strategy. I’m very happy with this victory, it’s the 1000th of the team. It’s a special day, I’m very proud to have done it.

I’m surprised with the gaps. It’s quite big on quite a short TT so I’m very happy to have...

Stage 3

111| Mathieu VAN DER POEL

Mathieu Van der Poel: "I'd have had to have extraordinary legs"

"This morning we thought the breakaway would have a chance, and that's what happened despite having Florian Lipowitz in our group. I took a gamble on this stage, but it was difficult to win. There were a lot of us in the finale and each time it was up to me to react to the acceleration, but that's normal after all. So I responded to the attacks several times, but it wasn't enough.

To succeed in this kind of scenario, I'd have had to have extraordinary legs. But with everything I'd given up just to stay in the breakaway, that wasn't the case any more.

All in...

107| Ivan ROMEO ABAD

Ivan Romeo: "I've had this stage on my mind for a month"

"To be honest, I don’t believe this! I need to see pictures of myself with the yellow jersey for it to actually sink in.

It was the plan from the beginning, to have someone up there in the break, to handle the climbs and then make the most of this finale. I’ve actually had this stage on my mind for a month now, since training in Sierra Nevada with the team. I’m very grateful to them for giving me this chance. It was our plan but to actually make it is something else…

It was already so hard to get in the breakaway and I didn’t...

Stage 2

173| Paul OURSELIN

Paul Ourselin: "It was the right strategy"

"At the start of the stage, I was in a slightly more attacking state of mind, but in the end I found myself alone at the front. That allowed me to pick up the points for the first four climbs, so it was the right strategy. It's true that being alone made it feel a bit long but after all it was nice, the weather was good. And then after that I was in the company of three other riders, which was quite nice. Even though I quickly realised that I couldn't go much further and that I wouldn't be taking the points on the cat-2 climb.

Now I can say that I'm getting the hang...

Stage 2

111| Mathieu VAN DER POEL

Mathieu Van der Poel: "Almost impossible to beat Milan"

"I’m pretty happy with these two days I had, it was better than I expected. This is also exactly what I needed in terms of shape and there’s a few more days to try and win a stage.

Yesterday, normally, I should have been able to win this sprint but given the circumstances, I was already happy to be in the front group.

And today, a sprint was inevitable. There was a battle to follow Milan’s wheel. Everybody knows he’s fastest.

And I knew it would be hard to beat Milan, one of the best sprinters in the world. It’s almost impossible...
